You should never ingest Amanita Muscaria shrooms raw. When they are dried it turns the Ibotenic acid into Muscimol, which is the substance that makes you trip in the Fly Agaric. Also Ibotenic acid is mildly toxic. Now instructions on how to dry Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) Mushrooms.
The easiest way and the way that I have done it in the past is to first grind up the mushroom, as your doing this start heating up some water on the stove. Let it get to about 190 degrees. Let it cook for about 30-45 minutes. Be careful to not let the water get too hot, try to keep it under 200 degrees, so you don't ruin the mushroom. Once you're done with this... you're done. Drink the water down once it gets cool enough. You could also make it into a tea.
Another way to make a drinkable tea out of Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria) Mushrooms is to first add an actual tea bag. I personally like to add 2 kava tea bags, which you can buy at Target if you're in the US. Normally it's not in local supermarkets and it's never at Walmart. You're local herb store would probably carry it as well. The kind I get is the Yogi brand. It has a strong Cinnamon taste to it and somewhat overpowers the Mushroom taste. I also suggest adding sugar.
As always I hope this was interesting/informative for you. Thank you for reading.

I have a question regarding the dosage. Should I only use the red part of the cap or should i just throw the mushroom caps in the boiling water ? And how much mushrooms/caps should I use.
ReplyDeleteI put the whole cap into the water, make sure its NOT boiling though.
ReplyDeleteI use 3-5 medium to large size caps normally. Which comes out to 20-30 grams.
Use 6 cups of water, and two cups of the tea should be enough to get you to trip.
Any more questions feel free to ask.
Thank you , that was helpful :)
ReplyDeletei have a question how do you dry them for somking
ReplyDeletejust made a whole new post about drying them in a different way so you can smoke them or whatever you would like.

Go there. (:
Hi! I like your blog... can you tell me how to grow amanita muscaria. I'd like to make a little garden with them in it (they are very pretty mushrooms). I would be scared to pick them from the wild as I could never be sure if it was a different kind I didnt want.
ReplyDeleteI already have a post on this topic actually.

If you got anymore questions feel free to ask.
And thank you!
Nice. I live in Poland, and the mushroom season is at it's peak. I got some decent edible varieties dried and pickled, and I also got some Amanitas, which I dried, since Liberty Caps are a bit hard to find in my region. They're to be found in the north facing slopes of sheep pastures in the southern mountainous regions, but I had no time to pick them this year. Anyway, glad for your post! Gonna try the tea method soon, and post a short review after.
ReplyDeletehow long can the tea be stored? is it a stable compound? should it be freezed or in the fridge?
ReplyDeletesimple drying doesn't completely decarboxylate ibotenic acid to muscimol. only about 30%., leaving a ratio of 1:3 muscimol/ibotenic acid.
ReplyDeleteDecarboxylation of ibotenic acid
Simply drying the mushrooms only converts up to 30% of the ibotenic acid to muscimol. giving a ratio of 1:3 muscimol:ibotenic acid.
For a more complete decarboxylation, refluxing a hot water acidic extract for 2 hours at 190F can give a ratio of 50:1. Neutralize before drinking.
If a hot water extract is mixed with some sugar and vitamin B6, a co-factor, then inoculated with yogurt bacteria cultures and incubated at 120F for 2 days, a ratio of 90:1 can be obtained. That is very little ibotenic acid remaining. In fact, a patent claims this product could be used as a nutritional supplement! In an alternative method, if you don't want to go the above rout, A cold water extract of the dried mushroom would have little ibotenic acid since ibotenic acid has poor solubility in cold water. Muscimol is readily soluble in water and relatively stable.

Explain what refluxing is and how to do it? Please
